Dr. Theo Tsaousides is a New York City-based neuropsychologist who serves as a clinician, researcher, educator, and author. He provides services to individuals, groups, and organizations locally and nationally.
He received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York in 2006. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation research at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He joined the faculty in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Mount Sinai shortly thereafter, and served as the Director of Training at the Brain Injury Research Center. He is an adjunct assistant professor at Mount Sinai and at St. John’s University. He is board certified by the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Theo is a brain-training expert. He has extensive clinical and research experience in cognitive rehabilitation, a set of interventions that aim to improve a person’s ability to perform cognitive tasks.
His training programs target the executive functions of the brain, a set of cognitive skills whose purpose is to ensure that goals lead to success. Through intensive strategy training and skill practice, he helps his clients achieve results in the pursuit of their own goals.
Dr. Theo contributed to the development of the Executive Plus program, designed to improve executive functions in people with traumatic brain injuries. He also created EmReg™, a training program designed to increase emotional intelligence, and improve communication skills and social problem solving.
He is currently involved in a research project at Mount Sinai designed to investigate the effectiveness of delivering emotional regulation training to a group of participants through online video interaction. Success of this program will increase access to health care for individuals with traumatic brain injuries.
Dr. Theo has published articles in prestigious journals and co-authored textbook chapters in his area of expertise. He delivers presentations and workshops nationally and internationally. He is a peer reviewer for a number of high-impact scientific journals, and continues to provide training and supervision to clinicians and staff on assessment and intervention following brain injury.
Dr. Theo is the founder of The LEAP Center, a personal development company focused on self-improvement and goal achievement, by translating science into practical daily strategies.
